At Bourbon and Lace doodles we take the welfare of our goldendoodles very seriously. Because we desire to remain a family based in-home breeding program, sometimes that means we will occasionally have a guardian dog placement. We cannot possibly continue to add dogs to our home permanently and remain focused on each dog's needs, that simply is not the right choice for us and what we want for our dogs. We believe all dogs deserve to have a family and be loved individually. This is where a guardian home comes in.
A guardian home is one that raises and lives with one of our highest quality dogs meant for future breeding. This family is meant to be a "forever family" for said dog. Ownership of the dog remains with us, the breeder until the dog has completed their puppy raising. In the case of a female this is 3-4 litters, after which we take the responsibility of spaying and turn over ownership of the dog to the guardian family. Female placements are much more likely than males.
The dog returns to us for health testing, breeding, and whelping/raising litters. When possible we also like to have our guardian dogs visit and stay with us when their family goes out of town. We want to feel like their home away from home. Many guardian families choose to plan family vacations during the time when we will have the dog, raising a litter. This allows them to not have to worry about boarding and they can be confident that their furry family is in the best care possible.
We very much want to families who see the value in what we do, the value in our thorough health testing and the way we raise our puppies. This partnership is needed to continue to provide the best.
Families need to have a fenced yard and know the importance of containment of this precious dog, especially during heat cycles.
A guardian dog is placed at no cost to the guardian home. We take responsibility for any breeding and health testing related costs, while the guardian family is responsible for day to day needs such as food, grooming, training. We also require that insurance be carried on the dog so there will never be a care concern in the case of an accident under the families care. We do not stipulate any specific provider, some options are trupanion, petsbest, lemonade, etc.
Families need to live within an hour of 97756 zip code. Very occasionally we may approve someone outside this radius with the stipulation of transport to us as needed.
Families must remain in the area with no plans to move for the duration of the contract.
Guardian dogs MUST be indoor dogs, with their needs being met.
We require a video call at minimum and possibly a home visit before approval.
Good, prompt communication is a must!
We will always put the welfare of the dogs in our program first and foremost.
We will be looking for a couple guardian homes at the end of December and January. These will be multigenerational goldendoodles, most likely red or white and red with soft wavy coats. In our most requested size, 25-35 lbs. These will be puppies from our own mamas, raised in our home on our puppy curriculum.
If you are ready, and want to have the process started for when we have a placement, fill out our interest form at the button below. In one of the question boxes note that you are applying for a guardian spot.
